WaveGuard Galvanizes Change in Punjab Swimming: A Splash Towards Excellence and Accountability

Mohali: In a groundbreaking event that made waves within the swimming community, WaveGuard, the visionary Swim Club committed to advancing swimming and safeguarding the interests of athletes and coaches, held a transformative gathering at The Mohali Club (Wyndham) on Sunday, September 24th, 2023. Aptly described as “A Splash Towards Excellence and Accountability,” this event was not just a celebration of achievements but a call for reform within the sport of swimming in Punjab.

The day began with check-ins and snacks, creating an atmosphere for networking and collaboration. What followed was a dynamic brainstorming session that delved deep into the pressing issues faced by swimmers and coaches in the region. It was agreed that there should be proper and regular State championships, eliminating the need for the ad hoc trial system which often causes swimmers to suffer while obtaining gradation certificates from the sports department.

Additionally, the event saw discussions on the importance of proper travel arrangements for teams participating in national competitions. It was unanimously acknowledged that providing comprehensive travel support for these teams is essential to foster a conducive environment for success at the national level.

The pinnacle of the event was the Awards Ceremony and Press Session, where outstanding swimmers, including national record holder in the 50-meter freestyle, Jasnoor Kaur, and her coach Johnny Bhatia, were honored. WaveGuard celebrated their remarkable achievements and pledged to support their journey towards further excellence.
