Chandigarh: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda has expressed concern over the situation arising across the state due to incessant rains. Hooda said life has been thrown out of gear across the state and horrifying pictures of water-logging are coming out from all over the state.
“The rain has once again exposed the reality of the arrangements of the BJP-JJP government. From roads, streets, parks, to government offices, everything is submerged. People’s houses and shops have been flooded. There have also been reports of houses collapsing and cracks appearing due to water-logging. If the rains continue in the coming days, the situation is expected to worsen,” he said.
The Leader of the Opposition said very worrying news is also coming from Ambala, Panchkula, Kurukshetra, Karnal and Kaithal, besides other parts of the state. “Many areas have been flooded due to overflowing of rivers and breach of dams. That’s why Ambala and other areas where the situation is uncontrollable, should be declared as flood affected areas. Also, the state government should ask for maximum help from NDRF and the Centre, so that the life and property of the people can be protected,” he said.
Hooda said while it had definitely rained more than normal this time, but the government should also have taken timely steps to prevent waterlogging. “It was the responsibility of the government to make additional arrangements for drainage and cleaning of sewerage, but the government kept sitting, like always. Today even Millennium City Gurugram has turned into a pond because when the government should have been focused on making arrangements for the rainy season, it was busy renaming the metro station,” he stated.
The former Chief Minister stated that the government will now have to prepare on a war footing so that the lives and property of the people can be protected for the coming days. He also said that the government should also announce compensation for the loss caused to the people due to rain.
Hooda also appealed to the public to take precautions. “People should be careful while moving and leave the house only when it is absolutely necessary,” he said.
Hooda thanked the people of Bhiwani for the success of ‘Vipaksh Aapke Samaksh’ program held on Sunday. He said that the people of Bhiwani-Mahendergarh Lok Sabha constituency showed great enthusiasm towards the Congress and people broke all the records of the crowd.
“It seemed as if three rallies were going on at the same place. Two rallies were going on in two different pandals and one rally was going on in the streets. People were visible everywhere as far as the eye could see,.
That’s why seeing the people’s attitude towards Congress and the success of the programs of the party, the opponents have already accepted their defeat before the elections. The people have made up their mind to eliminate BJP-JJP and form the Congress government in Haryana,” he said.
